Yesterday afternoon I attended a lovely media cocktail launch at McCaffrey Haute Couture here in Ottawa, where they were unveiling the new face of their designs – mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta.
That’s right, the same Wallis Giunta who will be taking the stage in our production of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci this September!
Wallis is an amazing singer, who got her start right here in Ottawa singing in children’s choirs and various local shows. She attended the University of Ottawa, the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, and has since moved on to take the U.S. and Europe by storm – not too shabby for a 25 year old! In fact, for the 2011-2012 season, she joins the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera in New York – one of the world’s most prestigious (not to mention hard to get into!) programs.
In her new modeling career, Wallis will be the exclusive face of David McCaffrey designs. His beautiful creations will follow her wherever she performs, and they’re making quite the splash so far. Because what goes better with opera than glittery, shimmery ballgowns?
Check out her website for sound clips, an extensive bio, and loads of photos from the McCaffrey collection. We’ll be proud to have this newfound star on our stage!
