One of Canada’s leading opera conductors, Tyrone Paterson has led acclaimed performances across North America, Europe and Asia. He held the position of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Opera Lyra Ottawa for 16 seasons (1998-2014), significantly raising the artistic level of performances. He also serves as Music Advisor and Principal Conductor for Manitoba Opera . He previously served for many years as Resident Conductor and Artistic Administrator for Calgary Opera and as an Artistic Advisor to Opera Hong Kong. He is also a strong proponent of Music Education having been instrumental in creating OLO’s Opera Studio training program as well as OLO’s “Silver Cast” performances.
“Paterson, who has made a name for himself as an opera conductor, stands well over six feet tall and is a commanding figure on the podium. He has expressive hands, and his baton patterns are crisp and clear. The maestro’s speaking is as articulate as his conducting, and he was able to put the large audience at ease from the start.”
